Welcome
to the OSU School of Music
Strings Department
The
OSU School of Music offers outstanding training in string performance
and pedagogy within the context of a major research university.
Music education majors earn the BME, MA in
string pedagogy and PhD, and prepare for productive
careers in the public and private schools as well as in higher education.
Performance
majors may earn the BM, MM, and DMA degrees,
preparing them for employment in orchestras and chamber groups
and commercial music as well as in private
teaching and teaching in higher education. Each of these
degrees draws on the resources of a distinguished
academic music department and a major university as well
as on an extraordinary faculty of string artists.
String majors gain extensive performance experience with
the University Orchestra and the
active chamber music program coached by the string faculty.
The
nationally recognized string education program
offers pedagogy training for both students who are seeking
careers in
the schools and for those who will teach privately or
at the college level. Students have the opportunity
to gain supervised teaching experience in the pre-college
strings program of the Jefferson Academy of Music at OSU.
In addition to generous undergraduate scholarships, graduate
fellowships and teaching associate positions,
OSU string majors have access to a small collection of
fine string
instruments for their use while enrolled.
